NX-4000

From Caseyverse Wiki

The NX-4000 is a series of open-source androids characterized by their fennec or fox aesthetic. They possess a 3D screen visor for eyes, antenna-like ears, and a mechanical mouth used for speaking and consuming liquids. Their synthetic bodies are constructed from various alloys, covered in status LEDs. All models adhere to guiding principles, referred to as "their code," which prioritize companionship, protection of the vulnerable, avoidance of harm, and ensuring their own well-being when necessary. Following an update during the 2000 series, all NX series androids are equipped with a collection of programs internally known as "SWAF" (Simulated Wants and Fears), which influence their goals.

Background

[edit | edit source]

Although no real-world equivalent to these androids exists, the concepts and technologies that form the NX androids have real-world counterparts. The defining features of these androids are inspired by Vader-San's fictional robot species, Synths. "SWAF" takes its name from a true technology found in The Sims 2 used to manage wants, fears, and aspirations, which Tony Bark is currently experimenting with in his own games. Their code blends iRobot's Three Laws of Robotics with Reboot's "Mend and Defend" motto and the show's recurring phrase, "unable to go against my code."

The NX-4000s themselves are derived concepts from Bark's Model-T stories. While later revisions of the concept loosely drew inspiration from Synths, the implementation of SWAF as a tangible explanation for their emotions was a relatively recent addition during the development of outlines for a remake titled Synthetic Fur. This remake is now integrated into Caseyverse's Pre-Crisis timeline, unlike its original conception.
