Furry United
Furry United was an experiential social network created by Tony Bark in 2008. It was hosted by Ning's former free tier. While Bark enjoyed the branding, they did not intend to achieve fame. The network gained traction for its focus on rock bands and music, eventually reaching popularity comparable to Furry 4 Life. Unbeknownst to Bark, they had inadvertently recreated an existing version of the network, originally operated by Fuzzy sometime in 2006.
MyFur Network
[edit | edit source]When Ning planned to discontinue its free tier, Fuzzy proposed collaborating to revive Furry United based on their custom architecture. At this time, Bark was approximately 18 or 19 years old and primarily familiar with phpBB and PHP-Nuke from their early teenage years. While Bark had experience writing websites in PHP, Fuzzy's codebase exceeded their understanding.
The collaboration ultimately ended due to Bark's frustrations with the complexity of the original architecture. Despite parting ways, Bark's unintended relaunch of Furry United paved the way for MyFur Network and influenced their decision to focus TPaw on social networking.
