Synthetic Fur is a reimagined boy and his robot story by Tony Bark, based on his original Model T story. It features Max Casey, a blue fennec; Nathan, an NX-series android with a similar aesthetic; and Max’s teacher at Bridgeport Institute of Technology, Kit Welsh, a badger who also works part-time as a doctor.

Plot[edit | edit source]

Similar to the original story, Synthetic Fur follows Max and Nathan getting to know each other when Max discovers that Nathan is water-cooled and has similar personal needs to him. However, it differs in that Max openly embraces this trait.

Max further reveals that he wears a skirt because he hates pants and was born with feminine parts underneath, despite his otherwise masculine build. This addition introduces themes of gender expression and identity.

Meanwhile, the introduction of Kit Welsh and the revealing of Gene Clinics foreshadow the pandemic in NOVAR Rising. Despite being designed as a standalone story, Synthetic Fur is the first pre-crisis story that is directly linked to it, establishing important connections within the broader Caseyverse narrative.
