== Background == Created by Tony Bark, Monotok was named after the song by William Orbit. The song was featured in the Red Planet soundtrack, from which Bark first heard it back in the early 2000s. Bark intended Monotok to be darker-themed for noir, mystery and drama stories while leaving Bridgeport for slice-of-life and adventure, drawing inspiration from Batman: The Animated Series. He is fully aware of the similar yin-yang contrast to Gotham and Metropolis found in the DC Universe that Monotok and Bridgeport share. However, it is intended to be more of a commentary on corporations through the lens of a nation where the concept of monopolies is literally foreign.
